What We Assess

12-Parameter Eye Evaluation

A cursory vision test at an optical shop checks one thing: whether you need glasses. Our comprehensive exam checks everything.

Visual acuity test
Refraction

Visual Acuity & Refraction

Distance and near visual acuity on a Snellen chart followed by automated and subjective refraction to determine your exact spectacle or contact lens prescription with pinhole testing.

10 minutesIncluded
Slit lamp examination
Anterior Segment

Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy

Magnified examination of the eyelids, cornea, conjunctiva, anterior chamber, iris and lens — detecting corneal abrasions, uveitis, early cataracts, pterygium, and dry eye signs.

10 minutesIncluded
Intraocular pressure test
Glaucoma Screen

Intraocular Pressure (IOP)

Non-contact tonometry measures your eye pressure. Elevated IOP (>21 mmHg) is the primary risk factor for glaucoma — which causes permanent vision loss with no early warning symptoms.

2 minutesIncluded
Dilated fundus examination
Posterior Segment

Dilated Fundus Examination

After pupil dilation, a direct and indirect ophthalmoscope examines the optic disc, macula, blood vessels and peripheral retina — detecting diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and early disc changes.

15 minutesIncluded
Colour vision test
Colour & Contrast

Colour Vision & Contrast Sensitivity

Ishihara plates detect congenital or acquired colour vision defects. Contrast sensitivity testing identifies early optic nerve disease and macular degeneration before formal acuity drops.

5 minutesIncluded
Pupil reflex examination
Neuro-Ophthalmology

Pupil Reflexes & Eye Movements

Pupil light reflex testing (relative afferent pupillary defect), cover-uncover test for strabismus, and extraocular motility assessment detect neurological and binocular vision disorders.

The Process

Your Eye Exam,
Step by Step

A complete exam takes 45–60 minutes. Bring your current glasses or contact lenses and, if applicable, previous prescriptions.

1

History & Chief Complaint

Your ophthalmologist takes a detailed ocular and systemic history — including diabetes, hypertension, family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, current medications, and symptom onset.

2

Visual Acuity & Refraction

Autorefractometry establishes your objective prescription. This is refined subjectively using a phoropter to determine your exact glasses prescription for distance and near vision.

3

IOP Measurement & Anterior Segment

Non-contact tonometry measures intraocular pressure. Slit lamp biomicroscopy examines the anterior segment in detail — cornea, lens, and anterior chamber.

4

Pupil Dilation & Fundus Examination

Dilation drops are instilled (takes 20 minutes to work). The optic disc, macula and peripheral retina are then examined with an indirect ophthalmoscope and slit lamp fundus lens.

5

Discussion & Written Report

Findings are explained clearly. You receive a written prescription, a summary of findings, and referral for further investigation (OCT, visual fields, corneal topography) if indicated.

Why Supreme Elite Clinic

Beyond a Basic
Vision Test

Most optical shops test only refraction. We run a full medical eye examination — the kind that catches glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and early cataract before symptoms appear.

OCT Imaging Available On-Site

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) of the macula and optic nerve fibre layer is available on the same visit if your exam findings indicate it — no separate referral or second appointment needed.

Integrated with All Eye Services

If your exam reveals cataracts needing surgery, LASIK candidacy, glaucoma requiring monitoring, or retinal disease — the same team handles next steps. No fragmented care across clinics.

Child-Friendly Examination Techniques

We use age-appropriate visual acuity tests (Kay Pictures, Cardiff cards) for pre-literate children, along with cycloplegic refraction to accurately detect hyperopia and amblyopia risk in kids aged 2 and above.

FAQ

Common Questions

Every 2 years for adults under 40 with no risk factors. Annually for anyone over 40, diabetics, hypertensives, those with a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, and anyone who wears contact lenses. Children should have their first eye exam before starting school, then annually throughout childhood.
Dilation is recommended for a complete posterior segment examination. Dilation drops take 20–30 minutes to work and the effects last 4–6 hours. Your near vision will be blurred and you will be light-sensitive during this time. We advise not driving for at least 3–4 hours after dilation. Bring sunglasses and arrange a driver if possible.
Yes — soft contact lenses should be removed at least 2 hours before your exam, and ideally the morning of. Gas-permeable (rigid) lenses should be left out for at least 3 days before, as they temporarily reshape the cornea and affect both refraction accuracy and corneal topography readings. Bring your glasses as an alternative.
Yes — this is one of the most important reasons for regular eye exams. Glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and early cataracts frequently cause no symptoms until significant damage has occurred. Detecting these at an early, treatable stage — before symptoms appear — is the whole point of annual eye care. "No symptoms" does not mean "healthy eyes."
